Tennis pro Stefanos Tsitsipas successfully defended his title at the clay court Masters in Monte Carlo. After his clear victory over Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals, the 23-year-old Greek prevailed against the Spanish debutant Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Sunday. Tsitsipas triumphed 6:3, 7:6 (7:3) and celebrated his eighth title on the ATP Tour.

Last year’s French Open finalist had previously beaten Zverev, who had a thigh ailment, 6-4, 6-2. It was already his seventh victory in the tenth duel with the Hamburg-born player. For his second success in the Principality, Tsitsipas collected 836,335 euros and remains fifth in the world rankings.

Davidovich Fokina (22) had reached a Masters semi-final for the first time ever after his surprise win over Novak Djokovic, downing Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3 on Saturday. By reaching the final, he jumps from 46th to 27th place in the rankings. However, Davidovich Fokina still has to wait for the first title of his professional career.
