Former Formula 1 driver Pascal Wehrlein took second place behind Britain’s Jake Dennis at the Formula E World Championship season opener in Mexico City.

Porsche works driver Wehrlein, who had won the race last year, pushed past Brazilian pole setter Lucas di Grassi (Mahindra Racing) on the last lap to secure second place.

Three-time DTM champion Rene Rast did not make it to the finish line on his debut for the traditional McLaren racing team. Shortly before the end of the race, he let his car coast due to technical problems.

The next two races of the season in the electric series will take place on 27 and 28 January in Riyadh/Saudi Arabia.
