Ski star Lindsey Vonn is back in winter sports. The US-American has a new role and promotes her home country.

Will the 2030 Winter Olympics return to the USA?

If Lindsey Vonn has her way, that would be the perfect venue. Accordingly, Vonn is giving strong support to a bid by her home country.

“I am proud to be a member of the Executive Board. I look forward to the opportunity to bring the Winter Olympics back to Salt Lake,” Vonn shared via Instagram.

In 2002, the Olympic champion, two-time world champion and four-time overall World Cup winner made her own Olympic debut in Salt Lake City. 28 years later, the major event could once again take place in the US state of Utah.

The other bids come from Sapporo (Japan), Barcelona (Spain) as well as Vancouver and Whistler (Canada).

Decision next year

Sapporo is said to be in the favourite position. However, the local population has not yet forgotten the countless costs incurred in the course of Tokyo 2021 and, according to Deutschlandfunk, would probably not necessarily welcome a renewed hosting.

One problem for Salt Lake City: in 2028, just two years earlier, the Summer Games will already be held in Los Angeles.

The final decision on the 2030 venue will probably be made at the IOC Session in May 2023.
