Chelsea FC is currently in the USA for a training camp and several test matches. However, two players are not allowed to go on the trip as they do not meet the entry requirements of the USA.

Chelsea FC will complete their training camp in the USA without N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The club confirmed this when announcing the 29-player squad for the trip and the test matches scheduled there. The reason for the absence of the two Blues players is their lack of vaccination status. “N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will not travel due to their Covid vaccination status,” the club statement read.

Currently, to be allowed to enter the US, all over 18s must be double-vaccinated against Corona. Only US citizens or residents are exempt.

Loftus-Cheek, who has played for Chelsea FC since his youth, had already tested positive for Corona last Christmas. Kante had already fallen ill twice. The first time was in September, when he also had to miss the Champions League group match against Juventus Turin, and a second time in January 2022.

Friendly match against Arsenal FC

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said at the time, asked about Kante’s first Corona illness, that he did not know his vaccination status. “The players are adults and have to make their own decision.” Therefore, he said, he was not in a position to give them recommendations.

In the USA, the players have a week of training sessions before they play friendly matches. They will play Club America in Las Vegas and Charlotte FC in Los Angeles. Finally, a match in Florida against FC Arsenal is on the agenda.

The two German internationals Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are on board for the stay in the USA. Former BVB star Christian Pulisic is also in the squad.
