The Ukrainian national team suffered a setback in the fight for direct promotion to League A of the Nations League, losing to Scotland.

The Ukrainian national football team has suffered a setback in the battle for direct promotion back to League A of the Nations League.

Coach Alexander Petrakov’s side deservedly lost 3-0 (0-0) to Scotland in Glasgow on matchday four of League B after a disappointing performance.

Captain John McGinn (70th) and substitute Lyndon Dykes (80th/87th) scored for the superior hosts.

As a result, Scotland moved past Ukraine (7) in Group 1 with nine points and took the lead in the standings.

On Sunday, Ukraine will play in Armenia and Scotland will host Ireland. The group stage concludes with another clash in Krakow/Poland on Tuesday. Only the group winner will advance.

The visitors never found their game at Hampden Park, where they had won 3-1 in the World Cup play-offs in June. Scotland ran riot, Che Adams first hitting the crossbar (63rd). McGinn scored after a strong individual action, Dykes with a header.
