There was also plenty of action on Thursday at Church Road. Of the top seeded players, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal served successfully.

Co-favourite Rafael Nadal reached the third round with a set loss. The 22-time Grand Slam winner Nadal of Spain beat Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Centre Court on Thursday.

Nadal was not rattled in the fourth set even by a long break in the rain during which the folding roof over the largest stadium was extended. The 36-year-old will now face Lorenzo Sonego of Italy. Nadal still has a chance to win his third Grand Slam title of the year after his triumphs at the Australian Open and the French Open.

Clear case for Tsitsipas

Things went smoothly for Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek, seeded No. 4, won against Australian Jordan Thompson in three sets 6:2, 6:3, 7:5.
