Austrian tennis pro Dominic Thiem lost his first round match against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi 3-6, 6-7 (9-11) in Estoril, Portugal.
The 2020 US Open champion was also eliminated in the first round a week ago at the clay-court tournament in Belgrade, his first ATP Tour appearance since June 2021. Thiem had to take a long break due to a complicated hand injury.
At the end of March, the 28-year-old had played his first official match after the long lay-off at the Challenger tournament in Marbella, but also suffered a defeat. Afterwards, he was set back again by a coronavirus infection.
