Super striker Karim Benzema is already 34 years old. Apparently, the Madrilenians have found a successor in Brazil.

Real Madrid has recently had very good experiences with talents from South America. Will Matheus Nascimiento be the next Brazilian to join Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo in the Spanish capital?

According to information from AS, one of the country’s biggest newspapers, the Blancos’ chief scout, Juni Calafat, has his eye on Botafogo centre-forward Matheus. The 18-year-old could even become Karim Benzema’s successor!

In fact, the playing styles of both footballers are similar. Unlike ex-Frankfurt player Luka Jovic, Matheus is not a typical penalty area striker, but interprets his role in a more modern way.

How does Real Madrid plan for Karim Benzema?

With his height of 1.84 metres, the Brazilian has good heading skills and likes to come in with his teammates via the wings or midfield.

Madrid are said to be aware that Benzema will not be able to play at the top level for more than two or three years. Real are reportedly even speculating on being able to prise Erling Haaland away from Manchester in 2024 thanks to the €150 million exit clause.

Matheus extremely accurate at youth level

Cheaper talents like Matheus could develop further with the Royals, but in this case the talented striker would be anything but a bargain. The 18-year-old Brazilian, whose market value is seven million euros, is said to have a 50-million-euro clause in his contract.

Matheus only made his debut for his Rio de Janeiro club in September 2020, becoming the youngest player in club history at just 16. During his time in the youth teams, the striker scored over 150 goals and played himself into the focus of Juni Calafat.

The opinion of the chief scout is highly valued in Madrid…
