Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will not fly to training camp with English football’s record champions Manchester United.

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will not fly with English football record champions Manchester United to the training camp in Thailand and Australia after the latest transfer rumours.

The club made the announcement on Thursday. Ronaldo said he had to take extra time off for family reasons.

The Portuguese had already missed the first training session for the internationals under new team manager Erik ten Hag on Monday for the same reasons.

Reports of Ronaldo wanting to move had recently become public. However, the Red Devils clarified on Thursday that Ronaldo “still has a contract” and is “not for sale”. The goal-scorer only returned to Manchester from Juventus Turin in 2021. He had already played for United from 2003 to 2009.

Bayern Munich also mentioned as interested

According to the Sun, however, the Red Devils’ sporting management had a rethink. Initially they wanted to keep the attacker – also in order not to open up another transfer construction site – but in the meantime they have probably come to terms with a departure.

The reason: they realised that they could not keep a Ronaldo who was willing to transfer. This was also communicated to the new coach Erik ten Hag, who had made it clear when he took over that he wanted to rely on “CR7”.

Bayern Munich are said to have been among those interested in Ronaldo, who is said to be bothered by the missed Champions League qualification and the lack of reinforcements for the team so far – but board boss Oliver Kahn stressed on Wednesday that the Portuguese is not an issue for the German record champions.
