After the early end of her comeback at Wimbledon, tennis superstar Serena Williams is planning her next appearance. The 40-year-old American is on the entry list for the WTA tournament in Toronto, the organisers announced.

The hard-court event, the highest category after the four Grand Slam tournaments, will take place from 8 to 14 August.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, was defeated in the opening round by Harmony Tan of France in her first singles appearance at Wimbledon after a one-year injury layoff. Afterwards, she left it open whether she wanted to continue her career. But Williams had also expressed motivation for the US Open, which starts on 29 August.

“When you’re at home, especially in New York and at the US Open, which is where I won my first Grand Slam, it’s always super special,” she said just over a fortnight ago. “It’s definitely a lot of motivation to get better and play at home.”
