Real Madrid lost to Manchester City in the semi-final first leg of the Champions League. Nevertheless, Karim Benzema, striker of the “royals”, scored twice – and has moved up to Lewandowski in the list of goal scorers.
Two goals against Manchester City were decisive: Karim Benzema of Real Madrid has closed the gap on Robert Lewandowski of German record champions Bayern Munich in the Champions League’s all-time scoring list.
In the 4-3 (1-2) defeat in the semi-final first leg at Manchester City, Benzema scored a brace for the “royals”. He scored for his club in the 33rd minute and added another in the 88th minute from the penalty spot (read more here).
Benzema only one goal behind Lewandowski
The Frenchman’s goals took his personal tally to 85, just one behind Lewandowski (86), who failed to score against FC Villarreal in the quarter-finals.
Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo continues to lead the rankings with 140 goals. The Argentinian Lionel Messi (125) of the new French champions Paris St. Germain is in second place. Both players were eliminated with their teams in the round of 16. Lewandowski joins the list in third place.
