Nasty scenes in the English fourth division. Streakers attack players and a pyro flare flies.

There was a messy incident in League Two, England’s fourth division, on Wednesday night.

In the play-off semi-final for promotion, angry Northampton fans stormed the pitch shortly before the end of the game and ran emotionally towards the players of their opponents Mansfield. A pyro flare also flew in the direction of the ‘Stags’ players.

Actions of the home fans also condemned by the visitors on their Twitter account: “Embarrassing scenes at Sixfields as some Northampton fans run onto the pitch.”

Crucial to the Northampton fans’ anger was the approaching 1-0 defeat in the semi-final of the relegation second leg against Mansfield. The first leg had already been lost 2-1 and the dream of promotion had been shattered.

Scenes that no one wants to see, but have been occurring in large numbers recently, especially in England’s lower leagues. A day earlier, Sheffield captain Sharp was headbutted by a strea
