Andrea Petkovic was the last German tennis player to be eliminated from the WTA tournament in Berlin. Stefanos Tsitsipas was knocked out in Halle.
The 34-year-old Petkovic lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus 4:6, 4:6 at the 790,000 euro event. In a match with a total of eight service losses, the 28-year-old Sasnovich had the better moments on her side in the important situations on Wednesday.
Petkovic conceded the first game with three double faults, but immediately won back the service game with the fifth break point, only to concede another break in the third game. Overall, the Hessian only took the lead once at 3-2 in the second set.
Gauff the last player to reach the last 16
Coco Gauff was the last player to reach the last 16. The French Open finalist beat Ann Li 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) in a US duel. In the last 16, the seventh-seeded 18-year-old will meet Wang Xinyu of China.
Earlier, Karolina Pliskova had already reached the last eight. The Czech fourth seed narrowly beat former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu of Canada 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7). Medvedev needs only 64 minutes against Goffin
World number one Daniil Medvedev easily reached the last 16 at the grass court tournament in Halle, Westphalia. The Russian tennis pro won 6-3, 6-2 against Belgian David Goffin on Wednesday. The 26-year-old needed only 64 minutes for his success.
In the battle for a place in the quarter-finals, Medvedev will now meet Ilya Ivashka from Belarus on Thursday, who had won against local hero Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening match. Medvedev replaced Serb Novak Djokovic at the top of the world rankings at the beginning of the week.
Kyrgios wins despite another freak-out
