For a long time it looked as if VfL Osnabrück would drop points against relegation candidates SC Verl. But despite being two points behind, the hosts at Bremer Brücke ultimately retained the upper hand.
Second division relegated VfL Osnabrück preserved their minimal chance of promotion in the 3rd division thanks to great morale. The team of coach Daniel Scherning won 3:2 (1:1) against SC Verl despite trailing twice.
Verl threatened with relegation
In fifth place in the table, the Lower Saxons (51 points) are now seven points behind the relegation place occupied by Eintracht Braunschweig (58). Osnabrück, who have won three of their last four games, have played two games less.
Marc Heider (85th) scored the winning goal for the Lower Saxons in front of 10,000 spectators at Bremer Brücke. Ron Berlinski (20th) and Aaron Berzel (67th) had previously put the visitors ahead, while Haktab Omar Traore (31st) and Sebastian Klaas (73rd, penalty) equalised twice.
Coach Michel Kniat’s Verl team is still in 17th place and thus in a relegation spot. They are four points away from the relegation zone.
