Heavy criticism for Neymar. The superstar lets off steam on social media.

The Ballon D’Or – many want it, only the best get it. The prestigious award of the French football magazine France Football, which selects the best player of the respective calendar year.

Neymar has so far been missing from the list, which is dominated by Lionel Messi, prompting ex-Liverpool player Fabio Aurelio to recently criticise his Brazilian compatriot and admit he would be very disappointed in Neymar’s place.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar’s response was not long in coming. As he often does, Neymar fired back on social media: “I’m fed up with these ex-players who are there and only open their mouths to talk sh****.” (Swallow freaks Neymar out)

I wonder if Aurelio hit a sore spot with Neymar with his statements.

At least Neymar didn’t want to let the critical words stand and shared a screenshot showing his individual successes as well as those with his previous clubs,

To this and he sarcastically wrote: “I’m really disappointed, wow. And I haven’t even listed everything yet.”

“Problems off the pitch”

In an interview with GOAL, Aurelio, who played for Valencia as well as Liverpool, had said Neymar was not living up to his abilities: “With the ambitions he has and the quality and talent he has, it feels wrong that he’s never won a Ballon D’Or.”

Above all, the distractions off the pitch are a major underlying problem, Aurelio believes. “You see (Cristiano) Ronaldo, Messi, they were at the highest level for 10 or 15 years and you never heard of off-field problems, but Neymar is always involved in things like that.”

In all likelihood, Neymar’s list will only add one more success this season. The Parisians are 15 points clear of second-placed Marseille in Ligue 1 with six matchdays remaining and close to the league title.

In the Champions League, Real Madrid were the last stop and in the French Cup, Nice beat PSG on penalties in the round of 16 – too little for the demands of the top club and certainly for Neymar himself.
