After Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, the Usos and RK-Bro are now uniting their titles. On SmackDown the showdown is fixed.
After the big double title match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38, WWE’s tag team belts are now also being combined.
On the Friday Night SmackDown TV show, the wrestling market leader announced that The Usos will face RK-Bro at the WrestleMania Backlash event on May 8, it will be a unification bout for the SmackDown tag team titles of Jimmy and Jey Uso and the RAW titles of Randy Orton and Riddle.
RK bro with points win over Usos, Roman Reigns absent
In a speech duel at the start of the show, the match was officially announced after the feud was announced a week ago.
On the first SmackDown edition after Mania, new WWE and Universal Champion Reigns had challenged his nephews Jimmy and Jey to follow suit and rule their division on both RAW and SmackDown.
However, at the end of the show, it was Orton and Riddle who landed a points victory beforehand: In a singles match, Riddle defeated Jimmy Uso – after the latter got distracted by Orton and Jey clashing outside the ring. Orton gave Jey his special manoeuvre RKO through a commentary desk, the same action Riddle then applied in the ring.
Reigns, who seems to have injured himself at WrestleMania – but which was not addressed by WWE – was absent from the current SmackDown episode, as was Shinsuke Nakamura, who was attacked by his “Bloodline” last week.
Charlotte Flair with signal to Ronda Rousey
The previously scheduled backlash match between Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey was also pushed on SmackDown: Flair signalled with an attack on the now interviewer Drew Gulak, and made sure to symbolically knock Gulak off with the Figure Eight surrender hold.
After the controversial finish to their first fight at Mania, Backlash features an I Quit Match between Ric Flair’s daughter and the UFC Hall of Famer, which can only be won by submission.
Meanwhile, a title match that already took place on SmackDown was won by Ricochet against former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. Ricochet retained his Intercontinental Title.
There was no ring appearance this week by the German-Austrian duo Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser, who celebrated their SmackDown debut last week – but they were kept present with a video clip:
