An injury that hurts even to watch. Newcastle player Wilson has to fear for his tooth on the sidelines.
Newcastle United welcomed Arsenal to St James’ Park on Monday evening for the 37th and penultimate Premier League matchday.
Midway through the first half, Magpies player Callum Wilson was treated by medics on the sidelines.
The impression of what initially looked harmless treatment was deceptive as the close-ups showed the shocking injury. Not for the faint-hearted, Wilson’s incisor was hanging by a thread!
For the striker, however, this is no reason to stop. After the short treatment and with a cloth in his mouth, the 30-year-old returned to the pitch and helped his team to victory.
Newcastle beat Arsenal 2-0 and jumped to twelfth place with the win. For the Londoners, the defeat was a bitter setback in the fight for the Champions League places.
In an interview after the game, Wilson was quite relaxed about his painful tooth problem: “I can’t really talk, my sh*** tooth fell out,” he said: “But well, it’s part of the game.”
The Sheikh club player also reviewed the event on social media a day later and was able to smile about his momentary loss, “I’d lose a tooth every week for evenings like this. What an atmosphere and what a performance from everyone with 3 points to boot!!!”
The worries quickly subsided, as the tooth is now back in place, as Wilson announced in his Instagram story with a big grin on his face.
It was the striker’s first starting eleven appearance since December after coming on as a substitute in the last game against Manchester City. The Englishman has been out for the last few months through injury.
Wilson wasn’t the only one joking about his tooth loss. Fans also left amusing comments on social media alongside words of appreciation for the player’s tenacity and performance.
