Ander Herrera is the next player to leave Paris Saint-Germain. The 33-year-old joins his hometown club Athletic Bilbao on loan.
Next departure at PSG!
Ander Herrera leaves his employer Paris Saint-Germain temporarily and joins his hometown club Athletic Bilbao on loan. The 33-year-old thus returns to his Basque homeland after eight years, having moved to Manchester United for €36 million in 2014. The midfielder is still contracted to PSG until 2024, but Bilbao secured an option to buy.
At Athletic, Herrera will meet coach Ernesto Valverde, under whom he played 39 games in 2013/14, as he did when he left. At PSG, the midfielder no longer played a role in the plans of new coach Christophe Galtier and was sorted out at the start of the season. Herrera has made 95 appearances (six goals) for the Parisians since signing on a free transfer from the Red Devils in the summer of 2019, 28 of which came last season.
“It’s a great pleasure to be back here. It’s been eight years since I left. It was three great years and it’s always nice to come back,” enthused Herrera.
“There is a very competitive team and there is Ernesto, with whom I have already worked. We only spent one year together and it went very well both athletically and personally. Since then we have had a close relationship. I will try to bring my qualities and experience.”
