Mick Schumacher has been voted “Driver of the Day” after his best ever career result in Formula 1.
The Haas driver received 24.5 per cent of the votes in the online poll on Sunday – significantly more than the winner of the Austrian Grand Prix. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc received 15.3 per cent of the votes and 10.1 per cent went for record world champion Lewis Hamilton, who came third in the Mercedes behind Leclerc and Red Bull world champion Max Verstappen (9.6 per cent).
The Haas driver raced to sixth place in Spielberg. “Very comfortable” in these areas, he said with a laugh, “I would feel even more comfortable at the front.” But for now, this sixth place was the best result of his young career, just one week after his first top-10 result – Schumacher is now in the thick of things in Formula 1.
Already in the sprint on Saturday, the 23-year-old Schumacher had fought a remarkable duel with Hamilton.
