New leader in the English Premier League: Manchester City overtake Liverpool FC with a home win against Brighton. Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea FC suffered a defeat in the city duel.

Defending champions Manchester City have regained the top spot in the English Premier League. Just one day after Liverpool FC took over first place with a 4-0 win over Manchester United, ManCity knocked the Reds off the top spot again with a 3-0 (0-0) win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.

Riyad Mahrez (53rd minute), Phil Foden (65th) and Bernardo Silva (82nd) scored at home for the team of former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola. Six matchdays before the end of the exciting Premier League season, Man City are only one point ahead of coach Jürgen Klopp’s team. The “Reds” occupy second place, well ahead of third-placed Chelsea FC.

Chelsea lose London derby against Arsenal

The Londoners, whose only league challenge is to qualify for the Champions League, lost a surprise 4-2 defeat to struggling Arsenal FC on Wednesday. Eddie Nketiah (13./57.), Emile Smith Rowe (27.) and Bukayo Saka (90.+2/Foulefmeter) scored for the visitors at Stamford Bridge. Cup finalists Chelsea – without their injured German defender Antonio Rüdiger – equalised twice through Timo Werner (17th) and César Azpilicueta (32nd).

Particularly annoying for the “Blues”: Arsenal’s double goal scorer Nketiah had played for Chelsea for a long time in his youth, but was not considered good enough there. That’s why he signed for the north London rivals at the age of 16.
