Liverpool FC moved past Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table – at least until late on Saturday night. Jürgen Klopp’s team had hardly any problems against Newcastle United.
First a two-year contract extension, then top spot in the league: things are going really well for Jürgen Klopp at the moment. With a 1-0 win against Newcastle United, Liverpool FC moved past Manchester City into first place thanks to Naby Keita’s goal (19th).
Three days before the Champions League semi-final second leg against Villarreal FC, Klopp gave some regulars a rest. Among others, Mohamed Salah and Thiago took a seat on the bench for the time being. Newcastle held their own throughout the game, but failed to score.
The Reds, on the other hand, remain unbeaten in their 15th league game in a row. Defending champions Manchester City have the chance to overtake Liverpool again with a win when they visit Leeds United on Saturday evening (6.30pm/Sky).
