Liverpool’s title hopes remain intact as Manchester United failed to break Klopp’s home form and conceded four goals at Anfield.
Liverpool FC extended their impressive home streak in the Premier League and underpinned their title hopes. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team deservedly won 4-0 (2-0) against arch-rivals Manchester United on Tuesday night after a furious performance and temporarily took the lead in England’s elite football league.
Luis Diaz (5th minute), double scorer Mohamed Salah (22nd/85th) and Sadio Mané (68th) scored for the Reds, who thus still have a chance of winning four titles – the quadruple – this season. Klopp’s team had even won the first leg 5-0. The Reds are now unbeaten in league home games since March 2021.
Manchester United, however, were unable to field their best line-up at Anfield under Ralf Rangnick. Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Fred did not even travel to Liverpool. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was also not on the pitch.
Moving tribute to Ronaldo
The fans in the stadium showed their sympathy for the Portuguese in a moving action in the 7th minute: They applauded for 60 seconds and expressed their support for Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez after their heavy blow. The 37-year-old Ronaldo is mourning the loss of their son with his partner.
The wording in a statement earlier in the week suggested that he had not survived a birth of twins. “Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to have some hope and serenity at this moment,” it said.
The fan action for Man United pro Ronaldo in the 7th minute alludes to the fact that the superstar has worn the shirt number 7 for years at the club and in the national team. All Liverpool and Manchester professionals played with mourning flags
