The Royal League is said to be desperate to extend the contract of their top goal scorer. A special clause in the Frenchman’s contract may save the Champions League winners from having to negotiate.

After the failed Mbappé deal, Real Madrid already put two exclamation marks in this transfer window with the signings of Antonio Rüdiger and Aurélien Tchouameni.

Apparently, it is not unusual for Real to agree an automatic extension that takes effect in the event of a Ballon d’Or win. This is reportedly what happened with Luka Modric, whose contract was automatically extended by one season until 2022 in 2018.

It is not known to AS whether such a clause is also in Benzema’s contract. However, the Champions League winners are said to be doing everything in their power to tie down their superstar, who was instrumental in winning the championship and the top flight with 42 goals, for longer.

Now, according to the Spanish newspaper AS, the contract extensions with the top performers are said to be of the highest priority, first and foremost with top scorer Karim Benzema. A special clause could help the Madrilenians.

Will Benzema stay until Haaland is signed?

According to media reports, the Spanish side would like to make a second attempt to lure wonder striker Erling Haaland to the Spanish capital in 2024. That is when an exit clause anchored in the contract with Manchester City is supposed to take effect.

Until then, club legend Benzema would probably be the perfect solution. Those in charge in Madrid apparently trust the Frenchman to play two more seasons at the top level.
