IOC President Thomas Bach has praised Brisbane as the venue for the 2032 Olympics, but also hinted at slight differences. “It was like a honeymoon meeting,” the International Olympic Committee chief said after a meeting with members of the Australian organising committee in Sydney.

“This honeymoon will not last forever. As we know from experience, there will be ups and downs, as in any marriage,” Bach added. Together, however, they will overcome “some unexpected obstacles”, he said. Among other things, the inclusion of rescue sports as a new Olympic discipline is being discussed. The IOC President avoided making a clear statement.

In rescue sports, lifeguards compete against each other. Initially developed in Australia, similar disciplines for swimming halls also emerged in other countries.
