Thomas Müller is bursting with energy ahead of the start of the Nations League. He can also imagine participating in the 2024 European Championship at home.
“We have something to prove to ourselves and to the German football nation,” the 2014 World Cup winner wrote in his newsletter on Wednesday, “I also feel that in the team. So the Nations League comes in handy in the coming weeks and has an increased importance for us.”
The team of national coach Hansi Flick is currently preparing in Herzogenaurach for the duels with European champions Italy (4 and 14 June), European Championship runners-up England (7 June) and Hungary (11 June).
“It will be a determination of our position and offers the opportunity to measure ourselves against well-known teams,” wrote the FC Bayern player. “We will give everything to show appealing performances.”
Müller does not write off home European Championship 2024
In addition, Müller also spoke about his future in the DFB dress in an interview with kicker. “I have extended my contract with FC Bayern until 2024 and am therefore contractually obliged to keep fit until then,” he says jokingly.
But he added: “Seriously, if I’m in the shape that the DFB can use me until 2024, I won’t rule anything out. But I don’t want to cling to that either.”
For now, however, the offensive player is only looking towards the end of the year. “I want to be 100 per cent fit for the World Cup in Qatar. We have a tight programme with the club, followed by the World Cup. Accordingly, I want to use every chance to regenerate,” he informed in his newsletter. “In addition, I have resolved to pick out one or two points on my own game on the football pitch as well, in order to specifically hone and improve finer points here.”
