Eden Hazard is actually on Real Madrid’s hit list because of his poor performance. But now he could have new hope.
Since Eden Hazard’s transfer to Real Madrid, things have been quiet in sporting terms.
The 31-year-old has not been able to fulfil the expectations placed on him in the three years he has been with the club. This is also due to his numerous injuries, which he repeatedly had and thus missed 72 (!) competitive matches.
No wonder, then, that the Royal League wanted to get rid of the Belgian international.
Now, however, there could be a turnaround, which Hazard wants to use to his advantage. After all, the transfer summer did not go as planned for Real.
Mbappé decision causes discussions
Kylian Mbappé was supposed to join Real from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, but the star striker ultimately decided to stay in France.
This decision came as quite a surprise and is even occupying the head of the Spanish league, who filed a complaint with UEFA.
Those responsible must now come to terms with this shock, even if Real president Florentino Perez is trying to appease. Mbappé was, after all, supposed to become the new face of the club and shape a new era.
Real tidy up squad
There is not much time for mourning, however, as Perez and co. still have a lot to do.
The main focus is on the future of Dani Ceballos and Marco Asensio. The contracts of both professionals expire next year and in the coming weeks it will be clarified what their future will look like.
The signs are currently pointing to a farewell, as they do for Luka Jovic, Mariano and Jesus Vallejo. With Gareth Bale, whose contract has expired and who has now found a new club, and Isco, they have already got rid of two deadbeats.
Hazard wants to attack again
Hazard, whose contract runs until the end of 2024, wants to use these departures for a fresh start. According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, he wants to “give everything to be as good as never before”.
For that to happen, above all his fitness must be right: Since his move from Chelsea in 2019, he has repeatedly struggled with weight problems. Most recently, he was even described as “fat” in his home country.
But it will be much more important for him to find his lightness again. After many injuries, he has lost some confidence in his body and shies away from duels, something his national team colleague Christian Benteke already complained about.
According to the report, he is ready to take on all attacking positions, but probably the role of a tenner would suit him best, as that is where he is best suited with his qualities as a brilliant passer.
In his seven years in London, he has proven that he can fill this role. But he must finally build on this time again, because this might be his last chance at his beloved club.
