EWE Baskets Oldenburg sign Pedro Calles as their new head coach. The Spaniard caused a sensation in Hamburg and Vechta.
Pedro Calles (38) will be the new coach at former German basketball champions EWE Baskets Oldenburg.
The Spaniard comes from league rivals Hamburg Towers and will receive a contract until 2025, the Oldenburg team announced on Wednesday.
“The club has done a lot of things right in its history and is rightly one of the best organisations in the BBL. My goal is to bring Oldenburg back to where it belongs in sporting terms as well,” said the new head coach.
The EWE Baskets had played against relegation for a long time in the completely disappointing last season.
Calles sensationally led Rasta Vechta to the play-off semi-finals in the 2018/19 season and left for Hamburg a year later. In Oldenburg, the coach succeeds “saviour” Ingo Freyer, whose contract was not extended. The former German international had taken over the then last-placed EWE Baskets at the end of January.
