Caroline Garcia became the first qualifier since 2009 to win a WTA 1000 tournament. The Frenchwoman won in two sets in the Cincinnati final.
Garcia beat two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-4 in the final to celebrate her third career Masters title after Wuhan and Beijing 2017.
The world number 35 is in blistering form, with a record of 26-4 from her last 30 matches – and also crowned it with the tenth title of her career.
As a bonus, she has returned to the top 20 of the world rankings, where she last appeared in 2017.
