Dominic Thiem (29) missed his first final on the ATP Tour in two years. The Austrian failed in two sets against the top seed.

The Austrian, struggling to catch up with the world’s top players after injuries and mental problems, lost to top-seeded Russian Andrej Rublev 4:6, 4:6 in the semi-finals at the indoor tournament in Gijon, Spain.

In 2020, Thiem triumphed at the US Open in New York and reached the final at the ATP Finals in London. Around six months later, however, his time of suffering began, which threw him far back in the world rankings. In the meantime, the former world number three is fighting his way back bit by bit, and on Monday Thiem will climb back into the top 135 players in the ranking.
