Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang resigns from the national team. The FC Barcelona striker thanks his supporters.
The national federation Fegafoot said in an official statement that it had been informed of the move by letter from the FC Barcelona attacker.
“After 13 years of representing my country with pride, I want to inform you that I am ending my international career,” the BBC quotes from the letter. It goes on to say, “I want to thank the Gabonese people and everyone who has supported me in good times and bad.”
Aubameyang said he would always have great memories of his time in the national team. Among other things, he highlighted his debut or the award as Africa’s player of the year.
Aubameyang departs from Africa Cup
He had last participated in the Africa Cup with Gabon at the beginning of the year, but had left under unusual circumstances.
Officially, heart problems were initially given as the reason. In recent years, Aubameyang had clashed several times with the football association in his home country. Among other things, when his father was announced as national coach, although there was no agreement.
The attacker had played internationally for Gabon for 13 years, during which time the eccentric goalscorer had scored 30 goals. Aubameyang has scored 13 times for Barca in the last three months since his move from Arsenal FC in the winter.
