The news of Louis van Gaal’s serious illness has moved the football world. Now his former club FC Bayern Munich has also spoken out – with urgent words.

FC Bayern has expressed courage to Louis van Gaal, who is suffering from prostate cancer. “He is a strong personality. All the best and a speedy recovery!” the Munich club wrote on Monday, addressing their former coach. The Bundesliga football club wishes the Dutchman “much strength in his fight against cancer”.

Van Gaal had admitted in a TV interview to suffering from an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He had been irradiated 25 times. “You don’t die of prostate cancer, at least not in 90 per cent of the cases, mostly you die of other existing diseases,” the 70-year-old told the channel RTL4 in his home country.

Van Gaal currently coaches the Dutch national team. He was coach of FC Bayern from 2009 to 2011.
