For years, Yann Sommer has been Borussia Mönchengladbach’s reliable back-up. In this transfer period, however, the Foals are threatened with the departure of their goalkeeper.
Yann Sommer is only tied to Borussia Mönchengladbach until 2023 – consequently, the Foals can only generate a transfer fee for the Swiss in the coming weeks.
From a sporting point of view, a timely change of club for Sommer would be a bitter blow for Borussia, but from a financial point of view, there could be no alternative.
It is possible that the 33-year-old will move to Ligue 1 in France. According to L’Èquipe, OGC Nice is interested in signing Sommer.
Lucien Favre has been coaching the club from the French south coast since the beginning of the week. The new coach knows the keeper from their times together on the Lower Rhine. In addition, the “Adler” have to fill the position between the posts after the departure of Walter Benítez to PSV Eindhoven.
Favre: “We still have to sign a goalkeeper”.
With Marcin Bulka (22), a new goalkeeper has already been brought in, but Favre called for further reinforcements at his presentation on Monday: “We have to sign another goalkeeper, that’s clear. Even though Marcin Bulka has made a good impression so far.”
According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, a verbal agreement has already been reached between Sommer and Nice. Stade Rennes have also been linked with Sommer in recent days.
