The former Arsenal star announced on his social media account that he will end his professional career at the age of 30.

Wilshere hailed as a prodigy

It was only earlier this week that Wilshere, who made his Premier League debut at the age of 16 and was hailed as a prodigy, announced his departure from Danish club Aarhus GF, where he had been under contract since February.

However, the midfielder has played the majority of his successful career at Arsenal FC. The former England international made a total of 197 appearances for the Gunners between 2008 and 2018.

“It’s been an incredible journey”

Looking back on his active career, Wilshere expresses his gratitude: “It’s been an incredible journey with a lot of incredible moments and I feel privileged to have experienced everything I have in my career.”

“From being a little boy kicking the ball around in the garden to captaining my beloved Arsenal and playing in a World Cup for my country. I have lived the dream,” he continued.
