The German basketball champion and cup winner Alba Berlin continued its slight upward trend in the EuroLeague at the start of its Bosphorus Week. In the make-up game of the 21st matchday, the capital city team won 66:57 (37:27) against Fenerbahce Istanbul and kept their chance of entering the play-offs alive.

Bayern Munich, on the other hand, suffered a setback in their battle for the quarter-finals in their matchday 30 make-up game. Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost 77-84 (36-33) at the already qualified Italian record champions Armani Milan. After twelve wins and twelve losses, the last play-off ticket would still go to the Munich team four games before the end of the group phase.

With eleven wins and 14 losses, Alba is in ninth place, at least within reach of the play-off places. Yovel Zoosman was the best scorer with 20 points for coach Israel Gonzalez’s team, which was shorthanded and came on strong in the second quarter. The Berliners will be back in Istanbul on Friday to face defending champions Anadolu Efes.
