Gareth Southgate calls up Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham for the conclusion of the Nations League group stage.

England coach Gareth Southgate has named Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham in his squad for the final Nations League group stage match against Germany.

The BVB professional is one of only three legionnaires in the 28-man squad for the duels with Italy in Milan (23 September) and the DFB eleven in London (26 September).

Like Bellingham, Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan) and Tammy Abraham (AS Roma) are playing abroad.

Leading the Three Lions’ line-up is captain Harry Kane. The only newcomer is striker Ivan Toney from Brentford FC, who was preferred to European Championship runner-up Marcus Rashford.

The Three Lions are surprisingly in last place in Group A3 after four games with only two points! Hungary surprisingly leads with seven points ahead of Germany (6) and Italy (5).

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, his “thoughts are also with the royal family”, said Southgate. Because of the ongoing grief on the island, he said he thought an ordinary squad announcement would be “inappropriate”. “This would divert people’s attention from where it should be.”
