Tatjana Maria has reached the semi-finals in Bogota – the 34-year-old qualifier from Bad Saulgau defeated Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund in two sets.

With the surprisingly clear victory, Maria can continue to hope for her first WTA tournament win in almost four years.

After 62 minutes, it was 6:1 and 6:4 for the German, who has thus reached a WTA semi-final for the first time in almost three years.

There, Maria will meet Romanian Irina Maria Bara or Kamilla Rakhimova from Russia.

Last title in Mallorca in 2018

Should Maria triumph in Colombia, it would be her second title on the WTA Tour. She had previously won at the 2018 tournament in Mallorca. There, she defeated Latvia’s Anastasia Sevastova 6-4, 7-5 in the final. Maria’s strong showing in Colombia’s capital means she will be back among the world’s top 200 players as of Monday.
