In the race for the best play-off positions, the Dallas Mavericks conceded a bitter blow at the L.A. Clippers.

Luka Doncic played big once again, the Slovenian superstar scored 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, but he also picked up his tenth technical foul of the season. The 23-year-old had expressed his displeasure to referee Ashley Moyer-Gleich after a block by Nicolas Batum – and was then penalised himself for his choice of words.

In the beginning, the two teams played an evenly matched duel before the Mavs, with Tim Hardaway Jr. (22 points) and Spencer Dinwiddie (21) standing out alongside Doncic, even pulled away a little in the second quarter and were 54-49 ahead at half-time. It was a similar story in the third period before the Clippers stepped up two gears in the final quarter to win 112-98 thanks to their star players Kawhi Leonard (30 points, 9 rebounds) and Paul George (21 points, 6 rebounds).

The Californians thus won two games in a row for the first time since 26/27 December, while Dallas lost four of its last five games, showing a clear downward trend.
