Novak Djokovic will miss Serbia’s Davis Cup intermediate round in Valencia. This was announced by the Serbs on Monday.
The winner of 21 Grand Slam tournaments could not take part in the group stage from 13 to 18 September for personal reasons, captain Viktor Troicki said, according to the Serbian newspaper “Blic”. Opponents besides host Spain are South Korea and Canada.
The former professional and current captain of the Davis Cup team regretted the absence of the long-time world number one, but believes he will qualify for the final round in Malaga in November. Djokovic will be available again then, Troicki said.
The 35-year-old Djokovic has missed the US Open in New York, which is currently underway, due to his lack of vaccination against the corona virus. According to his homepage, his next scheduled event is the Laver Cup in London from 23 to 25 September. A European selection will meet a team of tennis professionals from the rest of the world.
