After Nyck de Vries won the Formula E season opener, Edoardo Mortara finished first in the second race in Saudi Arabia.

Defending champion Nyck de Vries missed out on a second victory at the Formula E season-opening weekend in Diriyya/Saudi Arabia. The Mercedes driver dropped back to tenth place after a long lead and several touches. On Friday evening, the Dutchman had secured victory in the opening race at the same venue. On Saturday, Swiss Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) prevailed ahead of Robin Frijns (Netherlands/Envision) and his team-mate Lucas di Grassi (Brazil).

Andre Lotterer (Duisburg/Porsche) finished fourth after a good race. The day before, Lotterer had dropped back to 13th place after problems in the closing stages. Pascal Wehrlein (Worndorf/Porsche) finished ninth in the night race, Maximilian Günther (Oberstdorf/Nissan) disappointed in 15th place.

The next race will take place on 12 February in Mexico City. A total of 16 races are scheduled in the eighth Formula E season, with the race in Germany again taking place on the grounds of Berlin’s disused Tempelhof Airport (14/15 May). For only the second time, the series will be competing for a world championship title.
