The German tennis team has left the United Cup with a clear defeat. On Tuesday night, the German team lost 5-0 to the USA in Sydney.

One day after the defeats of Olympic champions Alexander Zverev and Jule Niemeier, Oscar Otte and Laura Siegemund also lost their singles and Siegemund and Daniel Altmaier in the final mixed. While Germany was eliminated as last in Group C after the 2:3 against the Czech Republic and the 0:5 against the USA, the USA qualified first for the next round in the new competition and will meet Great Britain there.

Only the mixed doubles won a set

At the end of the group phase, Siegemund lost to Jessica Pegula 3:6, 2:6 and Otte lost to Frances Tiafoe 5:7, 4:6. The mixed doubles Siegemund/Altmaier at least managed to win a set against Pegula/Tiafoe 7:6 (7:5), 4:6 and 7:10. The day before, Zverev had lost 1-6, 4-6 to Taylor Fritz and Jule Niemeyer had lost 2-6, 3-6 to Madison Keys.

In six groups of the new competition for women and men in preparation for the Australian Open, which will take place from 16 to 29 January, a total of 18 nations will fight for advancement, and the winner will be determined in the final on 8 January.
