South Korea rewards two Olympic champions with special victory bonuses. The athletes no longer have to worry about food.
After their Olympic victories in Beijing, Hwang Dae Heon and Choi Min Jeong will not have to spend money on fried chicken for almost 40 years.
As a reward for their achievements, the short-trackers from South Korea are allowed to eat the equivalent of 22 euros a day at a fast-food chain until their 60th birthdays.
Chicken as much as you can eat for Olympic champions
Yoon Hong Geun, head of the South Korean Olympic delegation and also owner of the company (Genesis BBQ), had promised the athletes the bonus before the Winter Games.
Now Hwang (22) and Choi (23), the country’s only gold medallists, are benefiting from it. “As a chicken lover, I want to thank the chairman for keeping his promise,” Hwang said.
According to Genesis BBQ, silver medallists will receive vouchers twice a week for 20 years and bronze medallists for ten years.
Fried chicken is one of the most popular dishes in South Korea.
