Next please: Noni Madueke moves from PSV Eindhoven to the Premier League and joins Chelsea FC.

On Friday evening, the Blues announced the transfer of the England U-21 international. Madueke joins from PSV Eindhoven, where he has not been an absolute regular this season due to injury (he has five league and three Europa League games on his CV).

Chelsea has now signed the right-winger to a seven-and-a-half-year contract until 2030 with the option of extending it by a further year, thus continuing the risky model of extremely long-term contracts often practised in England in recent times. No details were given about the transfer fee, which according to media reports should be around 35 million euros.

Madueke is looking forward to his return to the Premier League, where he is still a blank slate. The 20-year-old played for Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur in his youth, but moved to PSV Eindhoven’s U17s in 2018, where he finally made the breakthrough into the professional ranks.

After 75 competitive games and 15 goals for Eindhoven, he is now drawn back home where he wants to take the next step in his fledgling career. “Returning to England and playing in the Premier League is a dream for me and my family,” says Madueke: “I’m very excited to sign with Chelsea at one of the best clubs in the world.”

Madueke is the sixth new winter signing for the west Londoners after Ukrainian Mykhaylo Mudryk, the Blues’ most expensive arrival this transfer window at around €100 million, as well as Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, David Fofana and Andrey Santos.

“He is an exciting talent who has already proven his quality in recent years at PSV,” Chelsea bosses Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali were quoted as saying in a club statement. “We are thrilled that he has chosen Chelsea and wants to take the next step in his career” at Stamford Bridge.
