Juventus Turin pay tribute to their long-time key player Giorgio Chiellini during the home match against Lazio Roma. Paulo Dybala sheds bitter tears with a crying fit.

Normally footballers are either disappointed or angry or both when they are taken off the field after less than 20 minutes.

But that is not the case for Giorgio Chiellini. The Italian was more touched than showing negative emotions.

In honour of his exceptional performances in recent years, the centre-back was substituted in his last home game for Juventus Turin on matchday 37 of the Serie A season after just over 17 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Lazio Roma. That’s how many years the 37-year-old played for the Old Lady, 18 years under contract there.

Chiellini left the pitch to thunderous applause from the crowd at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, visibly moved. Matthijs de Ligt was substituted for the legend.

Chiellini, European champion with Italy in 2021, announced last week that he would no longer play for Juventus in the summer. He left it open whether he would end his career or look for a new club.

The home game against Lazio also saw Paulo Dybala bid farewell after seven years at the club. The Argentine, who will not renew his contract which expires at the end of the season, was substituted in the 78th minute.

Last game for Juventus Turin: Dybala sheds bitter tears

The striker shed bitter tears after the game and had a crying fit on the turf in front of the fans’ stand. Leonardo Bonucci tried to console him. But it did not work.

To the sounds of “Simply the best” by Tina Turner, the offensive man let his emotions run free as he received applause from the entire stadium.

It is also unclear where Dybala will go.
