Andrea Petkovic will not be able to represent the German team at the Billie Jean Cup in Kazakhstan due to an injury.
The 34-year-old Petkovic, currently ranked 67th, had to cancel her participation in the qualifying round of the competition on Friday and Saturday due to an adductor injury she suffered in March.
“It’s a great pity that Andrea won’t be there. She is always an important part of the team and has a lot of experience,” said team captain Rainer Schüttler: “But for now, the main focus is that she cures her injury to get fit again as soon as possible.”
It’s all about a ticket for Prague
Nur-Sultan is all about getting into the final round. In Petkovic’s absence, former world number one Angelique Kerber, Laura Siegemund, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Jule Niemeier want to ensure that the German team can fight for a place in the semi-finals in Prague at the beginning of November.
Schüttler did not make any additional nominations. Nastasja Schunk is in Kazakhstan as a training partner and could step in at short notice in an emergency. However, the 18-year-old is scheduled to play the qualifier for the WTA tournament in Stuttgart on Saturday.
