After their Europa League exit against Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Barcelona wanted to make amends with their fans. But against relegation candidates Cadiz, the Catalans disgraced themselves once again.

FC Barcelona is in a mini-crisis. After the 2:3 against Eintracht Frankfurt in the European Cup, the “Blaugrana” suffered the next home defeat. In front of 57,500 fans at the Camp Nou, Barça with national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen lost 0:1 against FC Cadiz. The home fans acknowledged the result with whistles.

Cadiz thus shot up from 18th to 16th place and left a direct relegation spot.

Lucas Perez scored the decisive goal in the 48th minute. Barcelona failed to score despite numerous chances. Cadiz’s goalkeeper Ledesma stood out.

It was Barcelona’s first league defeat since the beginning of December. The last time coach Xavi’s team had won seven games in a row in La Liga.

Pre-match demonstration

Supporters of the club had protested against the club’s management after the great anger of tens of thousands of Frankfurt fans at Camp Nou during the 3-2 defeat in the Europa League. Before the match against Cadiz, they demanded the resignation of club president Joan Laporta on the esplanade outside the stadium.

“Laporta resign” and “Barça, that’s us” they chanted over and over. The fans’ association “Nostra Ensenya” had called for the protest. The media estimated the number of participants at 100 to 200. Another Ultra group, “Grada d’Animacio”, even called for a boycott of the match.
