Basketball fans of Olympiakos Piraeus overshot the mark in the decisive play-off match against AS Monaco.

Pyrotechnics, firecrackers, laser pointers: Basketball fans of Olympiakos Piraeus overshot the mark in the decisive play-off match against AS Monaco for a place in the Final Four of the EuroLeague.

In front of the eyes of NBA star Kevin Durant, who shared impressions of the 94:88 victory of the Greeks on Twitter: The Brooklyn Nets star player wrote meaningfully of an “apocalypse”.

And Durant reacted to the comparison of European fans to NBA fans: “Bring a flare to an NBA game if you want and you could end up in Rikers.”

The EuroLeague organisation condemned the behaviour of some fans the day after, which led to a stoppage of play in the closing stages. As a consequence, “all evidence will be carefully examined” and “necessary measures” will be taken.

In the semi-finals of the final tournament in Belgrade, Olympiakos will face defending champions Anadolu Efes Istanbul with German centre Tibor Pleiß on 19 May. The second ticket to the final will be awarded in the match between Bayern Munich’s vanquishers FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
