The two unbeaten teams ALBA Berlin and EWE Baskets Oldenburg meet on the third matchday. In the end, the German champions keep their clean slate.

The German champions remain unbeaten!

On the third matchday, ALBA Berlin celebrated an 89:81 away win at EWE Baskets Oldenburg and thus kept their clean record in the third BBL match.

The picture is different for the home side. Head coach Pedro Calles’ team suffered their first defeat of the season after two victories at the start of the season – and that at home in the EWE Arena.

After a balanced opening phase, the team from the capital took more and more of the game and went into halftime with a comfortable lead of eight points (44:36). ALBA coach Israel González seemed to have found the right words.

ALBA turns up the heat in the third quarter

In the third quarter, last season’s double winners scored 26 points, while their opponents only scored eight. In the end, this quarter would also decide the game.

In the final quarter, the home team was able to reduce the deficit. With quick points and fouls, Oldenburg only briefly shook the guests. They also increased their intensity and brought the victory home with strong performances from the line.

German European Championship heroes set the tone for ALBA

Johannes Thiemann and Maodo Lo played a decisive role in this success. The two European Championship heroes, who crowned the basketball summer with the bronze medal at the continental championships, each scored 18 points. Thiemann also contributed seven rebounds.

DeWayne Russell stood out for Oldenburg. The point guard ended up with 16 points and eight assists. He thus clearly exceeded his previous average of 3.5 assists per game, but could not prevent the defeat.
