The US-American Serena Williams has returned to the tennis circuit after a 357-day forced break.

On Tuesday evening, the 40-year-old played her opening doubles match at the WTA grass court tournament in Eastbourne, England, alongside Tunisian Ons Jabeur against Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic and Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain).

‘Forced break due to severe thigh injury

A tear in her hamstring had forced Williams to take a month-long break. Back in April, she hinted at a comeback at Wimbledon in an exchange with football star Aaron Rodgers.

She has won the tournament in southwest London seven times, most recently in 2016.
